In memory of Dr. med. René Maire
The AeCS has received the sad news that our honorary member, founder and long-time member of the AeroMed department, Dr. René Maire, passed away on February 23.
Dr. René Maire, a glider pilot for many years, became the first AeCS association doctor in 1979. As a dedicated team doctor, he took part in two gliding and two parachute world championships. René Maire was also very active internationally as a specialist expert. In 1982, he was elected AeCS delegate to the CIMP (Commission internationale médico-physiologique = medical commission of the FAI). The FAI (Fédération aéronautique internationale) is the international umbrella organization for aviation sports. He was a member of the CIMP from 1982 to 2016; he was its President from 1999 to 2001. After his retirement from the AeroMed 2023 department, he also carried out other projects within the EASA. René Maire wrote a current report on his latter project, an upgrade of the EASA cardiovascular requirements for pilots and air traffic controllers, which will appear in the upcoming AeroRevue 2026/1.
The AeCS extends its sincere condolences to his family.
