Change of director at the Swiss Museum of Transport
Yesterday evening, the Swiss Museum of Transport celebrated the change of director. From March 1, 2026, Martin Ettlinger from Lucerne will take over the management of Switzerland's most-visited museum. The former member of the Executive Board and Head of Market and Development knows the museum inside out and stands for continuity and further development.
The official ceremony to mark the change of director at the Swiss Museum of Transport took place yesterday evening. The Board of Directors had already elected Martin Ettlinger, the 50-year-old from Lucerne, as the new Director last year following a public tender process. From March 1, 2026, he will lead Switzerland's most-visited museum and be responsible for its strategic and operational development.
Martin Ettlinger has been a member of the Executive Board since 2021 and was most recently Head of Market and Development. With his appointment, the Museum of Transport is relying on a leader from its own ranks who knows the museum, its partners and its environment inside out and has helped to develop the corporate strategy.
Appreciation of the achievements of Martin Bütikofer
Martin Ettlinger is taking over from Martin Bütikofer, who has shaped the Swiss Museum of Transport for 16 years and will retire at the end of February 2026. During this time, the Swiss Museum of Transport has continued to develop and strengthen its position as an important experience, education and meeting place. New offerings such as the Swiss Chocolate Adventure, Media World and the "House of Energy" expanded the museum's profile and set important accents in terms of content. With over one million admissions last year, this successful development is also reflected in the visitor numbers.
