The Aero Club of Switzerland AeCS is the umbrella organization for Swiss light aviation and air sports. Founded in Bern in 1901, the association has around 24,000 members and is divided into eight divisions - powered flight, gliding, ballooning, model flying, helicopters, parachuting, microlight and amateur aircraft construction - and 36 regional associations. The Swiss Hang Gliding Association SHV is an organization independent of Aero-Cub.
Light and sport aviation is the real cradle of aviation. Both military and professional pilots receive their basic flying training on light aircraft at the regional airfields and airfields. As the umbrella organization for general aviation, the AeCS promotes and supports young pilots at all levels and air sports. The AeCS also advocates favorable conditions and appropriate infrastructure at airfields and in airspace.
