Who is organizing the 70th Gordon Bennett World Championship in Switzerland?

Winning the 68^rd Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett by Kurt Frieden and Pascal Witprächtiger, Switzerland has acquired the right to host the event in 2027.

A world championship on Swiss soil is a great opportunity to present light and sport aviation in the best light. A festival for young and old with plenty of creative freedom for the organizer. 

The SBAV is checking the feasibility on behalf of the AeCS and asks interested organizers to until December 31, 2025 to submit a declaration of intent. This should be sent directly to Pascal Witprächtiger to the organizers. We would like to thank the potential organizers for an early announcement of the declaration of intent. 

Ideally, the letter of intent should already contain details of the organization and the venue. The SBAV is looking forward to receiving numerous applications and suggestions and will decide who will be awarded the contract based on these. Key tasks of the organizers 
Presidium / Secretariat

• Overall management of the organization
• Coordination with AeCS, FAI, CIA and SBAV
• Intensive cooperation with competition management including air traffic control and meteorologists as well as the jury

• Budgeting and accounting for the event
• Financing of the event by sponsors, among others

• Support for the teams
• Sending out invitations and accepting registrations
• Support in finding accommodation
• Planning of the Opening Ceremony, Award Ceremony and Closing Ceremony

• Communication with various stakeholder groups via a wide range of channels

• Ensuring the infrastructure at the launch site (including gas, sand, parking spaces, premises, marquees)
• Planning and managing helpers in their own department
• Obtaining permits from the municipality, canton and federal government (e.g. hospitality industry license, police, cantonal forestry office, FOCA)
• Maintaining security (e.g. security officer, strict access controls to the filling area, security and crisis concept, crisis team, rescue axes, coordination with emergency services)

• Organization of a supporting program for the public
• Catering for teams and the public
