Rigi Air Classic takes place on August 1

Now that the OldtimAir on the Stanserhorn is no longer taking place, pilot Jean Voegelin, a multiple Stanserhorn participant with the An-2, and three fellow pilots are filling the gap, at least this year. The Rigi Air Classic will now take place on August 1 on the summit of Rigi-Kulm.

The Rigi Air Classic was actually supposed to take place on Whit Sunday. However, poor weather conditions led to its cancellation at short notice. Now the flypast of the aviation classics is to take place on August 1. There will be flypasts of more than a dozen vintage aircraft at eye level with spectators on the summit of Mount Rigi.

A little foretaste

In addition to the Pilatus Porter "Yeti" from Langenthal, the P-2, P-3, PC-7 and PC-9 from Stans will also be on display. Two Bücker Jungmanns, Piper Cubs with and without floats, an Antonov An-2, AT-16, Messerschmitt Bf 108, Yak-18T and other vintage aircraft will also be taking part. Modern aircraft such as the Lightwing AC-4 from Buochs with a Moswey glider in tow will also be on display. Two replicas of the legendary Junkers F13 from 1919 will appear in formation. The flypast of a North American P-51 Mustang is expected to be particularly dynamic.

  • I was on the Rigi for 2 days over Aug. 1, but didn't know in advance that there was a flying parade.
I'm actually a nature photographer and usually more interested in photographing birds;-)
but I didn't want to miss this great flying parade (they are also a kind of bird;-)
I made a few recordings and put an album of them on the Internet,
    see link below.

  • Thank you very much for this spectacular experience, which we were able to experience at the end of our stay on the Rigi! The fact that the pilots dared to do it despite the difficult weather conditions is proof of their flying skills and great passion. The commentator on the tower also did a great job!
