UL restrictions and customs airfield obligation to be lifted

After intensive clarifications, the National Council's Committee for Transport and Telecommunications (KVF-N) has concluded its detailed deliberations on the amendment to the Aviation Act (LFG). There is good news for light aviation.

The KVF-N approved the amended Art. 51 by a clear majority. This generally provides for the licensing of microlight aircraft up to 600 kg take-off weight, as is customary in Europe. This means that this category is now included in Swiss law. The second piece of good news concerns the repeal of Art. 9 regarding customs airfields. The Federal Customs Administration has signaled that the regulations for cross-border flights should be aligned with the regulations for road vehicles. In both cases, the AeCS was able to carry out intensive preparatory work for these adjustments thanks to the representation of National Councillor and Central President Matthias Samuel Jauslin.

With regard to alcohol checks, the Commission has decided that the extension to ground staff should only apply to airports certified under EU law, but not to regional airports or airfields. In the overall vote, the Commission adopted the proposal by 15 votes to 8, meaning that it is ready for the coming session.

Hello everyone, does anyone have a definite, exact date for when the customs airport requirement will be lifted?
    Best regards

    • Hello Bernd
This is only a proposal from the responsible committee in the National Council to amend the Aviation Act. This must be approved by both chambers before it can be implemented. At the moment, however, we are confident.

      • Thank you for your reply, so things will certainly remain as they are for the rest of this year. In any case, there is hope for next year; the current procedure in smaller places is, to put it kindly...suboptimal.

Why can't people who live close to the borders of EU states, e.g. Liechtenstein and Swiss citizens, and who fly with foreign airplanes from clubs close to the border, benefit from the lighter customs regulations? We are always at a disadvantage and for no reason. Liechtenstein residents who actually live in the EEA do not have this advantage and must always comply with all regulations!
That could also be regulated right away. We are not the ones who need to be controlled.

A general right of passage for ULs with destination F or IT would be great! .....not to mention the exception to allow entry for an airfield festival!

Will the ban on foreign ultralights flying in/transit be lifted again? Or will you still have to pay CHF 260 for two months?

    • The Aviation Act must first be approved by Parliament. It is then up to the federal government and the Federal Office of Civil Aviation FOCA to implement the corresponding amendments. For the time being, this entry fee must continue to be paid.
