FOCA: Restructuring of Zurich Airport airspace completed

The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) has redesigned the structure of the airspace around Zurich Airport with the involvement of the main stakeholders. The aim is to make scheduled flights even safer.

In February 2013, the FOCA published a Security report on Zurich Airport, This report highlighted various risks both on the ground and in the airspace.

In 2018, the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) therefore launched the project on behalf of DETEC "Redesign Zurich airspace". The FOCA's goal: fewer airspace violations and greater safety overall.

Flughafen Zürich AG, Skyguide, Swiss, the Military Aviation Authority (MAA), the Swiss Air Force, German Air Traffic Control (DFS), the German Federal Ministry of Transport and the AeCS were all involved in the project.

Thanks to the dedicated cooperation of the AeCS Head of Airspace, the AOPA and the gliding association, a compromise was finally reached which, although it does not meet all the demands of the regionally affected clubs and associations, shows significant improvements compared to the first drafts of the redesign.

At our upcoming Airspace webinars we will discuss the adjustments to the TMA Zurich redesign in detail.
