125 years AeCS

125 Years on the Water and in the Air

On October 3, 2026, the Aero-Club of Switzerland and the Lake Lucerne Shipping Company (SGV AG) are planning a joint anniversary event. When the steamship Uri began service on May 4, 1901, the AeCS was just one month old. Today, the Uri is the oldest ship on Lake Lucerne and, for many steamboat enthusiasts, the most popular. Just a few years after the paddle steamer’s maiden voyage, Lucerne even got its own airship, the «Ville de Lucerne.».

So there are a few points of overlap, not least the Air and Space Days in early October at the Swiss Museum of Transport, where the AeCS will also be present. On Saturday, October 3, there will be a special cruise on the historic steamboat Uri to celebrate our AeCS anniversary with a short cruise on Lake Lucerne.

The plan is for the Uri to depart from Lucerne at 5:30 p.m. and head to the Lido, where visitors to the Air and Space Days can also board. Weather permitting, our anniversary balloon will also be in use there. This will be followed by a cruise on Lake Lucerne featuring a three-course meal.  At 8:00 p.m., the Uri will dock in Lucerne again after a stop at the Swiss Museum of Transport. The cost of the boat ride and dinner is 99 francs; a maximum of 150 passengers may participate in the event.  We look forward to welcoming as many AeCS members as possible on board.
