Rega plans for Kägiswil meet with resistance

Rega Swiss Air-Rescue wants to move its headquarters from Zurich Airport to Kägiswil. Rega wants to have the existing runway dismantled, which would mean the end for the flight groups and flight schools based in Kägiswil.

In a Newspaper article claims Rega, that DETEC had already promised support for their plans. Federal Councillor Albert Rösti clearly rejected this statement. Rega had merely been informed of the necessary further procedure.

The AeCS is politically active in the matter of Kägiswil, as well as other endangered sites, and is vehemently opposed to the creeping displacement of light aviation. More on this in the The latest article by National Councillor Matthias Jauslin in AeroRevue.

Matthias Jauslin, Aargau GLP National Councillor and Central President of the Aero Club of Switzerland, the umbrella organization for Swiss light aviation, has proposed a motion to preserve Kägiswil. "At some point, we will run out of airfields and available airspace," he says. "They want to drive us out of Zurich and Bern, and in Basel they want us gone by the end of 2026, and now Kägiswil. Yet we do an important job. Every student pilot who will one day fly in the cockpit of a commercial airliner starts their training on a small aircraft." The planned dismantling of the runway contradicts Switzerland's aviation policy, which states that the number of airfields should be maintained. "I know that those responsible at Rega are lobbying Transport Minister Albert Rösti behind the scenes for exclusive use of the Kägiswil site," says Jauslin. "I even fear that a deal has already been made in the back room." When asked, Rösti denies this. "It is true that the Federal Council was informed by Rega about the planned project in Kägiswil. He informed Rega about the necessary further procedures without any decisions being made," says his media officer. He will also meet with the current users of the airfield. SLA
