The Oberaargau Aviation Museum at the Langenthal\/Bleienbach Airfield is normally open only to groups. From October 2 through October 4, individuals will also be able to visit the special exhibition on Swissair each afternoon.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

On October 2, 2001, the unthinkable happened: the once-proud Swissair went bankrupt. The image of the passenger jets parked one inside the other made headlines around the world\u2014as did the image of the young pilot on the beach in Rio de Janeiro. But the history of Swissair is also the story of a symbol of Switzerland that many were proud of. After World War II, the airline connected Switzerland to Europe and overseas. With a special exhibition, the Oberaargau Aviation Museum commemorates the history of the former national airline, which lives on today as SWISS but is still missed by many.<\/p>\n

This diverse museum, where visitors can see airworthy vintage aircraft such as an AT-6, the Yeti-Porter, and much more, will be open from October 2 through 4, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. Visitors can also check out the aviation flea market, where they can pick up all sorts of items\u2014from books to posters, model airplanes, and original parts. In addition, a huge new exhibition of 1:72-scale models is now on display there.<\/p>\n
