The Swiss F-35 program has thus reached another important milestone on the way to delivery of the first aircraft from mid-2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The main assembly of the first Swiss Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft recently began at the Lockheed Martin plant in Marietta, Georgia. The start of production follows the production of the first components for the Swiss aircraft, which has already begun. In the coming months, the first Swiss F-35A will undergo further production and assembly phases. The F-35 program is based on an international supply chain with more than 2,100 suppliers worldwide, according to aramsuisse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transfer to the Swiss Air Force from 2027 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first eight F-35As destined for Switzerland are to be deployed at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas, USA, from mid-2027 to train Swiss pilots. The first aircraft are expected to arrive in Switzerland from mid-2028. The remaining Swiss F-35s will be delivered from the final assembly plant in Cameri, Italy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swiss F-35 program <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the F-35A, Switzerland is procuring a fifth-generation fighter aircraft. The system has modern capabilities in the areas of sensor technology, networking and situational awareness and is intended to contribute to safeguarding Swiss air defense in the long term. In addition to operational capabilities, the program also includes industrial cooperation with Swiss companies. As part of its offset commitments, Lockheed Martin is working with Swiss industrial partners in the areas of research, development, production and maintenance. One example of this is the technology project with Pilatus Aircraft announced in March 2025.
